ASCE 7 Wind Directionality and Pressure Coefficients

Updated Apr 3, 2026
Establishes pressure coefficient factors for different building shapes and wind directions.

ASCE 7 Section 27.4 provides pressure coefficients for different building components and shapes. Rectangular buildings have different coefficients on windward and leeward faces. Roof edges experience higher pressures than roof centers due to flow separation. Internal pressure coefficients account for building openings on windward and leeward sides. Enclosed buildings have lower internal pressures than partially open buildings. Wind direction variations from 0-360 degrees must be considered, as wind from different directions produces different critical loads.
