Schedule 40 PVC: ASTM D2665 (DWV), ASTM D1785 (pressure). White color. Sizes: 1-1/2 in through 6 in for DWV. Wall thickness: 2 in = 0.154 in, 3 in = 0.216 in, 4 in = 0.237 in. Max operating temp: 140°F (not for hot water supply). DWV uses: waste, vent, drain lines. Joining: solvent cement (primer required by code in most jurisdictions). Cannot be used above ground where exposed to sunlight (UV degradation) without painting or sleeving. Cost: $0.50-$4/ft depending on diameter. Advantages: lightweight, chemical resistant, easy to cut/join, low cost. Fire rating: limited — releases HCl when burned, must be firestopped at rated assemblies. CSI 22 13 16.
