Updated Apr 3, 2026
Insulation installer applying thermal and acoustic insulation materials

Insulation installers apply fiberglass, mineral wool, foam, and other insulation materials to building interiors for thermal and acoustic performance. Trade training typically includes 2-3 year apprenticeships. Work includes batt insulation, blown-in loose-fill insulation, rigid foam, spray foam, and acoustic panels. Installers must understand R-values, vapor barriers, and building envelope principles. Typical hourly rates range from $25-$55. Union insulation workers may belong to the Laborers union or IUPAT depending on region. Specializations include spray foam, dense-pack cellulose, and specialized acoustic products. Safety knowledge includes proper handling of fibers and PPE requirements.
