Gas welding/cutting and arc welding safety: gas cylinder handling, fire prevention, ventilation, PPE, hot work permits.

Subpart J: Welding and Cutting. 1926.350: Gas welding/cutting — cylinders stored upright secured, valve caps on in storage/transport, no damaged cylinders. Oxygen: no oil/grease on equipment. Acetylene: max 15 psi working pressure. Check valves and flashback arrestors. 1926.351: Arc welding — proper grounding, cables maintained, electrode holders insulated. Welding machines: frames grounded. 1926.352: Fire prevention — 35 ft clear of combustibles or use fire-resistant covers. Fire watch during and 30 min after hot work. Extinguisher within 10 ft. Hot work permit system. 1926.353: Ventilation — mechanical ventilation required in confined/enclosed spaces. Fluorine, zinc, lead, beryllium, cadmium, mercury — special ventilation per Table 1. 1926.354: Welding/cutting in confined spaces — test atmosphere before/during, ventilate continuously, gas monitors. PPE: welding helmet (shade 10-14 for arc), leather gloves, leather apron/jacket, safety glasses under helmet.

Scaffolds must support 4x intended load without failure. Guardrails required at 10 feet. Competent person must supervise erection. Workers must be trained. #2 most-cited OSHA standard in construction.

GFCI protection required for all 120V 15/20A outlets on construction sites. Temporary wiring must be protected from damage. Extension cords must be 3-wire grounded. Electrocution is a Fatal Four hazard.
