MEP Rough-In Inspection

Updated Mar 25, 2026
Multi-trade inspection after rough plumbing, electrical, and HVAC but before insulation/drywall.

MEP rough inspection: ALL trades must be complete before calling. Inspector checks PLUMBING: DWV test (5 psi air/15 min), pipe sizing, venting, supports, firestops. ELECTRICAL: wire sizing per panel schedule, AFCI/GFCI circuits identified, box fill calculations, grounding, nail plates on studs, proper supports. HVAC: duct sizing, duct support intervals, combustion air provisions, gas pipe test (3 psi/10 min), refrigerant line insulation. ALL: firestopping at rated assemblies (UL systems), clearances from combustibles, nail plates where pipes/wires within 1.25in of stud face. HOLD POINT — the most critical rough inspection. After this passes: insulate, then close walls.
