IBC Section 3003 — Elevator Operation and Monitoring

Establishes procedures for elevator operation and emergency response.

Section 3003 addresses elevator operation and safety monitoring. Operators must be trained if elevators are attended. Firefighter emergency operation permits fire personnel to override automatic operation for rescue. Overload switches prevent excessive loads that could damage the elevator. Battery backup allows elevator descent to a landing during power loss. Maintenance access for repairs must be provided.
