IBC Section 3009 — Temporary Construction Elevators and Hoists

Addresses safety requirements for temporary personnel and material hoists during construction.

Section 3009 requires that temporary hoists used during construction meet ANSI standards. Hoists must have capacity ratings clearly marked. Operational speed and stopping distance must be controlled. Brakes and backup mechanical systems prevent free-fall. Gates at loading platforms prevent falls. Inspections are required before initial operation and periodically during use. Training of operators is mandated.
