IFC Section 2501 — Stationary Storage Battery Systems

Regulates battery energy storage systems used for backup power and renewable integration.

Section 2501 addresses stationary battery systems used for energy storage. Lithium-ion batteries must meet safety standards including temperature monitoring and fire suppression. Lead-acid batteries require ventilation and acid containment. Sodium-sulfur batteries require thermal management. Energy capacity is specified in kilowatt-hours. Charging and discharging systems must be properly sized and controlled to prevent overcharging. Safety systems prevent thermal runaway and explosions.
