IFC Section 504 — Obstruction of Fire Apparatus Access Roads

Prohibits blocking fire apparatus access roads with parked vehicles or obstructions.

Section 504 requires that fire lanes remain clear of obstructions including parked vehicles, merchandise, or temporary structures. Yellow and white curb markings designate fire lanes. Signs reading 'No Parking — Fire Lane' must be posted at 25-foot intervals. Property owners are responsible for maintaining fire lanes and removing unauthorized parked vehicles. Heavy penalties apply for blocking fire lanes, as emergency response delays directly impact life safety.
