Standard for fire sprinkler systems in residential buildings up to 4 stories.

NFPA 13R provides design standards for residential sprinkler systems in apartments and multi-family buildings. Wet-pipe systems filled with water are standard in frost-free areas. Dry-pipe systems in cold climates protect from freezing. Design density is 0.15 gallons per minute per square foot. System testing is required after installation and annually thereafter.

Two exits or exit access doorways required from any space where occupant load exceeds the table values. Spaces with occupant load exceeding 500 require a minimum of 3 exits. Spaces exceeding 1,000 require 4 exits.
