NFPA 505 — Fire Safety Standard for Powered Industrial Trucks

Addresses safe operation of forklifts and other powered trucks in combustible dust areas.

NFPA 505 specifies that powered industrial trucks (forklifts) used in areas with combustible dust must be Class II (dust-safe) equipment with non-sparking materials and covered motors. Tires must be conductive. Electrical systems must be grounded. Operating procedures must prevent ignition sources. Training of operators is mandatory.
