NFPA 80A — Protection of Buildings and Facilities from Exterior Fire Exposures

Addresses site design and construction to prevent external fire spread to buildings.

NFPA 80A addresses external fire exposures from adjacent structures and wildland. Building exterior materials should be fire-rated. Windows in exposure areas should be protected with shutters or fire-rated glazing. Vents should be protected with louvers or automatic closers. Vegetation should be cleared from buildings to prevent wildland fire spread. Non-combustible roofing materials reduce risk of ignition from flying embers.
